Terrarara
Part Two: Soundscapes, when listening
An ongoing body of work from Yimbaya Maranoa Art Collective's camping residency in 2024, held on Gunggari Country close to the Maranoa River, on pastoral property "Terrarara".
Relational and situated listening is a core practice of the collective. This project was initiated at Terrarara and is intended as an ecoacoustic modality for deep listening to Country.
Site specific listening recognises non-humans as both actors and listeners in a de-centred soundscape. A situated field of sounds is inseparable existentially from, and specific to, that place and moment. Embodied listening places the self as permeable, connected and participatory.
Iteration One - Wind Harp. A collaborative sound installation with recordist and guitarist Stewart Kruger, and a travelling guitar set on an open and elevated site catching air flowing over the strings. (Incidental percussive effects occur when human or others made physical contact with the installation.)
